Prof. Raffaello Castoria from University of Molise Visited Jiangsu University

Prof. Raffaello Castoria from University of Molise visited Jiangsu University from 10 June to 14 July. Prof. Castoria delivered a series of academic lectures named Recent advancements on the detoxification of the mycotoxin patulin, Organization of Studies in Italy: Food-related schools at the University of Molise as an example and Postharvest Biological Control of major apple diseases and implications for prevention of mycotoxin contamination on July 1 and 5 respectively. Prof. Ma Haile, the Dean of School of Food and Biological Engineering, hosted the lecture, and introduced Prof. Raffaello Castoria. Prof. Castoria was appointed to the part-time professor at Jiangsu University in 2014.

Prof. Raffaello Castoria received his Ph.D. from University of Rome “La Sapienza” and University of Perugia in Biotechnology of Fungi. His research interest is the mechanisms of action of yeasts acting as biocontrol agents of postharvest fungal pathogens of horticultural and fruit crops, the prevention, monitoring and detoxification of the mycotoxins, including Ochratoxin A in wine-grapes and wine, and Patulin in pome fruits and pome fruit-based juices, also through the identification and use of yeast gene(s) involved in the detoxification process.
