An English corner activity whose theme is “cultural communication & happily pass weekend” was held at “Jiuyue coffee” dessert shop by International Department of Food Institute in Nov 27, 2016.

This was the first time some Chinese students were meeting foreigners so they were nervous at the beginning but when the atmosphere became increasingly active ad more relaxed, all the students enjoyed themselves regardless of the communication gap.

Members of International Department showed their flexibility towards the activity because of the unstoppable passion of foreigners, they had to end up abruptly some games planned and introduced some more interesting activities like magic show and karaoke; making the event carry on well without influencing the enthusiastic atmosphere.

Around midday, the event was brought to an end. After listening to the well-known English song “Hey Jude” mimicked by the members, the host acknowledged the sponsor and announced the end of the program. Photographs and pleasantries were exchanged as a We Chat group with more than thirty (30) participants and members was created and climaxed the day’s events satisfactorily.

“This was awesome and memorable! Please don’t forget to invite me the next time.” said a Ghanaian student.

During this activity, all participants besides foreigners had fun and ate together. Although certain portions had some foreigners challenged in understanding Chinese students, but it was interpreted patiently and clearly; and with the enthusiastic foreigners, this activity became a successful one. Likewise, Chinese students benefited from it as they had experienced the cultural communication and broadened their horizon which made this weekend particularly colorful. The theme of this activity seemed simple but actually remarkable.
