On Apr. 19, Dr. Elena Simone from the University of Leeds visited Jiangsu University. Dr. Simone delivered an academic lecture named Application of process analytical technology (PAT) tools for the better understanding and control of crystallisation processes. Prof. Huang Xingyi, vice-Dean of School of Food and Biological Engineering, and some faculty members and students of the school attended the lecture. Introduction to Dr. Elena Simone: Dr. Elena Simone comes from the School of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Leeds. She received her Master degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Pisa, Italy and her PhD degree in Hemical Engineering, Loughborough University, UK. Then Dr. Elena Simone worked as visiting scholar at Purdue University, School of Chemical Engineering, West Lafayette, US. Her Research Interests: 1.Understanding the phenomena of polymorphism, nucleation and crystal growth of pharmaceuticals and food crystals (e.g. fats, sugars) using on-line, in situ, analytical techniques as well as off-line solid state characterisation;2. Developing strategies to effectively control crystal size, shape and polymorphism during crystallisation processes, combining experimental and modelling work.
