On Nov. 10, Renfu Lu from the research unit of the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service (USDA/ARS) at Michigan State University, visited Jiangsu University. Huang Xingyi, the vice dean of School of Food and Biological Engineering, introduced Dr. Lu. Prof. Renfu Lu delivered an academic lecture named Emerging Sensing Techniques for Nondestructive Quality Evaluation of Horticultural and Food Products.

Dr. Renfu Lu is Research Leader with the research unit of the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service (USDA/ARS) at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. He is also an adjunct professor with the Department of Bio systems and Agricultural Engineering at Michigan State University. Dr. Lu's research has been focused on nondestructive quality evaluation of horticultural and food products. He has made many original contributions in the development and application of hyper spectral imaging, light scattering, optical property measurement, and structured-illumination reflectance imaging techniques. Recently, he has led a team of researchers on the development of apple harvest and automatic infield sorting technology, which greatly enhances harvest efficiency and achieves significant cost savings in postharvest storage and packing for apple growers. Dr. Lu has authored or co-authored more than 110 refereed journal articles, and edited two technical books. He was an editor for Transactions of the ASABE and Applied Engineering in Agriculture. Dr. Lu currently is chair of the ASABE Publications Council.
